I grew up in Portland Oregon, a place very special to me—the perfect harmony of a suburban city and endless lush forests, mountains, and deserts. Portland will always be home and I cherish my time there since moving to New York when I was 18. I moved to Manhattan in 2022 to start school at the Fashion Institute of Technology. I am still at FIT and currently finishing my degree in Jewelry Design. While in school I have been motivated to dip into other forms of art such as sculpture, printmaking, and wardrobe styling in hopes to combine the action of all into my practice.

I currently live in Brooklyn and can't see myself anywhere else at the moment. I love Brooklyn and the community it is.

I am super excited to bridge the gap between the jewelry world and the art world. I want to test the boundaries of what we see and know jewelry to be. I am passionate about the invention of wearable art and sculptural jewelry.

Pearl Baker works to create wearable art that pushes the boundaries of jewelry as a craft to transcend into an art form that compliments body language and expression. She does this through metal smithing and more recently has extended her practice to adapt to alternative materials such as leather, resin, recycled scrap fabrics, thread, and wool. The use of malleable and elemental materials has a more influential purpose to Pearl and her practice. She finds that engaging in different ways of expression in structural forms like bold abstract flower arrangements has much importance to adopting a harmonious aesthetic in jewelry. Pearl’s creative process extends through the fabricating process to the experience of wearing and collecting to maintain a more direct relationship with its wearer.

Flowers! I started arranging flowers when I was working for a women’s clothing store in the Lower East Side. I would make runs to the flower district and create three arrangments in the store for the week. This brought me so much joy and creative expression. Ever since then, I have continued to exercise my creativity with flower arranging.

Material exploration is a big part of my creative process. The more material I have around me when creating the better. I find that my designs are often structured around the form of an object and its range of motion. I am always trying to find a harmonious combination of texture, color, and shape in the material. My favorite materials to use together are resin and leather!
